I've been given a new brief today, we have to make an animation using a random statistic that we need to put across as either positive or negative. I've already done Flash for the past 2 years so I might challenge myself and try and teach myself After Effects instead, something a bit different. Need to find some good tutorials and stuff first.

Research

The internet is littered with random statistics, funny ones, strange ones etc etc. I typed into google "funny statistics" and ended up getting loads of really random stuff. I have a week to work out what I want to do my animation on, and it has to last between 30 - 90 seconds so it needs to be something interesting, for me anyway.

I came across the myth of "men think of sex every 7 seconds" statistics, and had a look around that. All fake, never been proven, so not really worth doing to be honest.

I also came across loads of bits and bobs, including http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/statistics-math-quotes.html
which is where i found out about statistics literally on statistics.

I actually really like the idea of that. Only because its different and makes you think twice about it. Most people will do animations on easy things that is really easy to get statistics about, like recycling; the planet; CO2 emissions; abuse and so on. Or they will go the opposite way and do random statistics like tea or something. I would like to do something that's even completely different to that. Its also quite clever doing statistics on statistics because it cancels out the credibility of other statistics used in animation and then starts a cycle of doubt.

The whole point of this unit is to put across a view point in the animation, whether i think it is positive of negative. Personally if i do statistics on statistics, i would like to make it negative as thats my opinion because statistics is bad research, and biased information, boiled down into numbers to gain profit for an organization.

I researched around my subject and found a few things like http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Random_Statistics and http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Statistics however i found it really hard to find out much information about statistics because i doubt many people want to reveal the fact that most companies and other things are based on fiction, not fact.

I'm going to use kinetic typography for my animation because it looks really good with words and is smooth and interesting. I've looked around and found loads of kinetic typography animations around the internet.

and loads more.
